Theology and Religion, BA

The theology major at Marquette provides the tools for critical reflection on what motivates us most deeply. Designed to maximize flexibility, the theology major allows students to select courses from across the primary sub-disciplines of theology (Scripture, historical theology, systematic theology, ethics, and inter-religious dialogue) so that they can explore questions that appeal to their interests and complement their studies outside the department. Often paired with another major, the B.A. in Theology and Religion not only prepares students who are interested in further study for graduate programs in theology but also promotes the development of critical thinking skills that prepare students to find meaningful work and lead a meaningful life in whatever endeavors they pursue after graduation. The broader perspective developed in the theology major also helps students appreciate the role of religion in society and navigate a religiously diverse world.
