E-Lead Program Innovation Leadership, Concentration
Excellence in Leadership (E-Lead) is a curricular innovation leadership development program for undergraduate students across all academic disciplines at Marquette. Through a curriculum rooted in the Jesuit tradition, E-Leaders progress through a three-year program focused on leading oneself, leading with others and leading innovation. The program is designed to be a complement to a student's major.
Students apply to the program in the sophomore year. Upon acceptance, students earn academic credit for their classroom and experiential innovation leadership learning. When students complete the program, they earn a Concentration in Innovation Leadership, which is noted on their transcript.

E-Lead Program
The Excellence in Leadership (E-Lead) Program is a curricular innovation leadership development program for undergraduate students across all disciplines at Marquette, offered through the Opus College of Engineering. Through a curriculum rooted in the Jesuit tradition, E-Leaders progress through a three-year program focused on leading oneself, leading with others, and leading innovation.
The E-Lead program is intentionally designed to:
- Educate and develop the leadership character, capacity, and efficacy of outstanding undergraduate students, who are able to lead teams in solving global problems
- Prepare leaders to inspire, engage and serve people and organizations who represent the full range of diversity across the human spectrum
- Develop leaders who are driven to address 21st-century global challenges in order to create value and bring about positive change
Students who complete all of the required elements of the E-Lead Program earn a Concentration in Innovation Leadership (12 credits).
Students who wish to pursue the Concentration in Innovation Leadership through the E-Lead program must apply for admission to the program. Space is limited and applications are only accepted from students in their second year. To be eligible to apply for the program, students must:
- Be enrolled as a second-year, full-time student at Marquette
- All credits that pertain to this standing must be earned while enrolled as a college student, not as a credit (i.e., AP) earned in high school
- Transfer students must have three years remaining on campus to complete the program
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.800/4.000 at time of application and maintained throughout the program
- Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university at the time of application and maintained throughout the program
Applications and all pertinent deadlines are published at the beginning of each fall term on the E-Lead Program website. Students are asked to submit responses to several short answer questions and a current resume. Once applications are received, a selection committee comprised of faculty, staff, and industry leaders reviews applications and selects the top candidates for an interview.
Only full-time Marquette University undergraduate students, accepted into the E-Lead program, may register for E-Lead classes. Students must meet all prerequisites before registering for a course offered in the program.
Students may be dropped from the program if they:
-
Miss any required elements of the program
-
Earn below a C in any of the required E-Lead courses
-
Are not applying the course work to leadership endeavors
Required program elements include:
-
Three seminars and three experiential courses
-
Participation in a professional experience such as an internship, a co-op, a clinical rotation, undergraduate research, etc. (to be secured by the student outside of the program)
