The biomedical sciences minor is designed to enable students in a variety of majors to explore human- and medically-oriented courses in areas such as anatomical sciences, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, neuroscience, pathology, pharmacology and physiology. The minor enhances students' preparation for a variety of careers and/or graduate study in health-related professions and enriches undergraduate students involvement in biomedical science research.
Biomedical Sciences Minor
Requires 18 credit hours. All courses in the minor must be completed with grades of C- or higher and an overall grade point average of 2.000.
BISC 1035 Principles of Human Anatomy (offered spring term) fulfills the anatomy prerequisite for many courses in the minor. For students in majors that don't require 4 credits of organic chemistry BISC 2050 Organic Chemistry for the Health Sciences (offered fall term) and BISC 2070 Biochemistry for the Health Professions (offered spring term) fulfill the organic chemistry and biochemistry prerequisites for most other BISC minor courses. Students should plan to take these three courses first to best navigate the minor.
