Licensure Information

Students take the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE). This occurs at the end of the D3 year or the beginning of the D4 year. Successful completion of the INBDE is not required for graduation from the Marquette University School of Dentistry (MUSoD). However, students are encouraged to attempt the examination before November 1 of the D4 year. Information regarding the INBDE can be found on the American Dental Association website.

Passing the INBDE exam is a requirement for licensure in all 50 states.

INBDE is administered in an electronic format through a third-party vendor, Prometric Testing Centers, and can be taken at any time after June 15 of the D3 year following approval by the Office of Academic Affairs.

Any student who is unsuccessful in passing the INBDE on their first attempt are encouraged to review their study materials and retake the exam as soon as per the Joint Commission on National Board Dental Examinations policy. Students are welcome to schedule a meeting with the Director of Educational Development and Assessment if they would like additional guidance after an unsuccessful attempt at INBDE.

Each state has its own requirements for licensure and most also require a clinical examination. Students are recommended to consult the state licensing body in which they intend to practice for further information.

Note: Board information is subject to change.
