An interdisciplinary, introductory seminar for students interested in Peace Studies. Students explore faith-based and secular theoretical and practical approaches to the concepts of peace and justice, through critical discussion of relevant texts and reflective writing., Soph., or Jr. stndg.; or cons. of instr.

Introduces the practice of theology as a way of knowing and engaging our world by exploring techniques and strategies to cultivate a transformed mode of perception that stirs us into action. Interweaving theory (René Girard, James Alison, Shawn Copeland, James Cone) and practice (silent contemplation), consider how the Christian theological tradition provides resources needed to address pressing social issues. Encourage students to consider how the practice of contemplation can lead to a theologically informed and transformed way of life.

Students engage in original research, intensive study and/or critical discussion under the close guidance of a professor who is generally an expert in the field.

Uses transformative Transformative justice as a political framework for responding to violence, harm and abuse and aims to transform the conditions that enabled that harm. Addresses the foundations of transformative justice through a lens of peacemaking and nonviolence. Senior seminar for students completing Peace Studies. Designed to bring interdisciplinary approaches to bear on questions of peace. Topics include the application of peace building skills, the creation of just systems, the protection of human rights, and effective models of development. Students explore paths to peace through text-based inquiry, multidisciplinary theoretical analysis, and integration of prior course work. Experiential learning opportunities and internships are offered.
