Offers students the opportunity to pursue in some depth a specific intellectual topic in an academic setting that is fun, safe, and that encourages exploration and risk taking. The content of the individual seminars varies. S/U grade assessment.

Participants of the MU4Gold Scholars program are introduced to some of the university's top researchers and scholars through a small seminar setting and become aware of the opportunities and resources available on campus for students to pursue faculty-mentored research on Marquette’s campus. As an Honors Program course, includes a more intensive research or project component. S/U grade assessment.

Orients first-year students to academic life at Marquette, prepares them to take an active and self-directed role in their learning, and develops their skills as effective and ethical communicators. Topic-based. Fulfills the MCC Foundations in Rhetoric requirement.

First-year Honors students are assigned peer mentors with whom they meet weekly in individual, small-group and occasional all-program meetings. Goals are to build academic and social community, self-efficacy, self-care and time management skills.

The second-year seminar allows students to investigate a topic from a perspective that joins a specific disciplinary technique (e.g., literary analysis, philosophical inquiry, scientific empiricism) with a non-traditional academic approach in an effort to broaden the confines of intellectual inquiry. Examples of non-traditional approaches include contemplative practice, action and reflection, and vocation discernment components. The specific topics will differ among individual sections but the goals common to all sections include helping students to understand the relationship between disciplinary-based and more non-traditional modes of inquiry and the limitations and assets of each; appreciate the value of contemplative and experiential practices in gaining a richer understanding of the meaning and implications of an issue; and explore the reciprocal relationship between contemplation and action. Open to sophomores majoring in English, Foreign Languages, History, Philosophy or Theology who are planning to complete Disciplinary Honors in their major. Introduces students to interdisciplinary study in the humanities by means of several case studies. Topics vary. GPA of 3.200, cons. of instr.; declared Humanities major and admission to a Humanities Disciplinary Honors Program.

A sophomore-level seminar intended to introduce participants of the MU4Gold Scholars program to the culture of research and to valuable skills needed to become effective researchers. A one-credit, non-graded seminar that meets for 50 minutes once a week, with a section consisting of no more than 10 students. The primary objective is to guide the students in the practices that researchers use to craft their disciplinary identity and tell their research story with diverse audiences. S/U grade assessment.

Must be taken by all Core Honors students either term of sophomore year; satisfies ESSV1 MCC requirement. Distinguished from the non-Honors ESSV1 by its required focus on cities and urban issues as a means to engage social systems and values.

Familiarizes students with the tools and methods of humanities research and guides them through the process of developing a research project and writing a research proposal. As an Honors Program course, includes a more intensive research or project component. S/U grade assessment.; declared Humanities major and admission to Humanities Disciplinary Honors Program.

Topic of broad interdisciplinary interest; topics vary. Three faculty from different disciplines co-teach the seminar, which includes lectures and small discussions. S/U grade assessment.

Facilitated writing group in which students are familiarized with the process of completing long research projects, workshop drafts and produce public presentations of their projects. As an Honors Program course, includes a more intensive research or project component. S/U grade assessment.

Complete an original research or creative project under the direction of a faculty adviser. Independently review the literature or other work in the field, develop a question or project design, conduct the research or execute the project, analyze the results, if applicable, and present the conclusions or the project., 3.200 cum GPA.
