ARSC 1020  Major Concepts in Modern Science 1  (4 credits)  
An interdisciplinary, integrated study of processes and principles of physics and their application to astronomy and earth science. Topics include describing motion, energy and momentum, electricity and magnetism, waves, sound and light, reflection and refraction, heat, rocks and minerals, the earth (plate tectonics, land and water cycles), weather, the solar system and stellar life cycles. Scientific inquiry as a means of knowledge: major technological contributions to modern societies, stability, information transfer, and emphasizing relevant physical processes in specific environments. Consists of 3 hrs. of lecture and 2 hrs. of laboratory work. May be counted as a natural science for elementary/middle school and middle/secondary teaching certification. Does not count toward major requirements for biological sciences, chemistry, physics, and broad field science for early adolescence/adolescence teacher preparation.

Topics include describing matter, chemical bonds, chemical reactions, the cell, genetics, evolution and diversity, human biology and ecosystems. Scientific inquiry as a means of knowledge: major technological contributions to modern societies, stability, information transfer and evolution of biological systems, emphasizing relevant chemical processes in specific environments. Consists of 3 hrs. of lecture and 2 hrs. of laboratory work. Does not count toward major requirements for biological sciences, chemistry, physics and broad field science for early adolescence/adolescence teacher preparation.

ARSC 1963  First Year Seminar: Lawyers in American Society  (1 credits)  
Academic seminar that introduces students in the Pre-law Scholars program to the legal profession, legal thought and legal education. Primary objective is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about lawyers, the practice of law and to assist them in making decisions about a career in law. S/U grade assessment.

Examines the manner, culture, values and identity that shape global and domestic politics in the West Africa region. Emphasis on public policy efforts to promote democracy and advance the overall welfare of the nation. Consists of two weeks of study and travel in West Africa. Travel fees.

Washington, D.C., with its array of historical sites, museums, monuments and population reflects the diverse experience of the United States and its democratic experiment. Explore key themes in American history through the lens of the nation's capital. A career preparation experience in an organization (e.g. corporation, community social service agency, non-profit organization) designed to apply and integrate the theory and practice of an ARSC education in a professional setting. Placement in a preapproved internship for a minimum of 140 hours per term. Internships are performed under the supervision of organization personnel. Grading and credits are accomplished by registering for ARSC 3987, or ARSC 4987, or equivalent department course during the following term. SNC/UNC grade assessment. There is no financial aid available for this course nor does it maintain student status for the purposes of loan deferment.; and preapproval of internship placement and cons. of internship coordinator.

Must have completed ARSC 3986 in the previous term or have a concurrent placement in an approved internship position for a minimum of 140 hours per semester. Internships are performed under the supervision of organization personnel and College internship coordinator. Includes a weekly career preparedness and professional development seminar. May be taken only once., ARSC 3986 or cons. of instr.; and preapproval of internship placement and cons. of internship coordinator.

Allows students to remain in full-time status for deferment purposes, while completing the internship; however, there is no financial aid provided for this class. Placement is for a minimum of 450 hours per term under the supervision of an internship mentor/supervisor. Responsibilities include relevant academic content.
