The IT faculty are changing the name of the IT major to Information Systems (IS). This is in alignment with how most business schools refer to the major. It is also most reflective of the scope of the major. For most external stakeholders, IT connotes a program that is more Computer Science or computer hardware oriented. Our major focuses more on design of software solutions (hardware considerations are a part of IT) and systems thinking approach. As such, IS would be more reflective of the scope of what we do and align us more closely as a B-school major. This change should be done at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
